Mechanical Mashrabiya

The Arab World Institute is one of Jean Nouvel‘s most successful buildings, one of the rare architectural beauties of the infamous 1980s. It is known and remembered for its modern mechanical mashrabiya (not sure about the plural). Here are various views of these automatic shutters which are as many diaphragms which open themselves when skies are grey and dull, and shut themselves up when the sun is shining to preserve the collections inside the building.
