As I was taking <a href=\"https:\/\/antimuseum.com\/en\/portfolios\/street-photography\/\">pictures<\/a>, I noticed that bollards had multiplied since our last visit, 7 years ago.<\/p>\n<h2>What is a bollard anyway?<\/h2>\n<p>I had to go to good old Wikipedia to find out. Here is the definition.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A <b>bollard<\/b> is a sturdy, short, vertical post. The term originally referred to a post on a ship or <a title=\"Wharf\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wharf\">quay<\/a> used principally for <a title=\"Mooring (watercraft)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mooring_(watercraft)\">mooring<\/a> boats. It now also refers to posts installed to control road traffic and posts designed to prevent automotive vehicles from colliding or crashing into pedestrians and structures, whether intentional from <a title=\"Ram-raid\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ram-raid\">ram raids<\/a> and <a title=\"Vehicle-ramming attack\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vehicle-ramming_attack\">vehicle-ramming attacks<\/a>, or unintentional losses of control.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10837\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10837\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/antimuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/52026780768_80489191db_k.jpg?resize=960%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Bollards bollards everywhere\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Basking in the sunshine, looking at the bollards, a newer version of the Stranglers\u2019 Peaches?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cars have taken over the world and so have bollards.<br \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/antimuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bollardsiu.jpeg?resize=767%2C387&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"bollards car\" width=\"767\" height=\"387\" \/><br \/>To stop the flow one needed bollards.<br \/>Not sure one can moor one\u2019s electric car to a bollard, though.<br \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/antimuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/51992516161_b8ae55aad4_k.jpg?resize=684%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Bollards bollards everywhere\" width=\"684\" height=\"1024\" \/><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/typology.city\/blog\/paris-bollard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You can\u2019t escape them<\/a>, try as you might, they are all over the place, in front of buildings, along the roads and bordering our pavements.<\/p>\n<p>They are part of our <a href=\"https:\/\/antimuseum.com\/en\/2013\/11\/23\/brussels-cityscape-bw\/\">cityscape<\/a> now. People paint them, decorate them, add flower pots to them and what not.<\/p>\n<p>One day as I was walking I came face to face with one of the little buggers pictured above.
