Here are a series of shots taken from Orange Cloud for Business\u2019 Normandy data center. As Orange is my client, all the pictures are watermarked with their French hosting website. Plenty of opportunities for great pictures in such a building. All shots taken in manual mode with my lightweight Nikon D7000 and my favourite 1962 Nikkor 35mm f\/2.8 fixed lens.<\/p>\n

About the Orange Val de Rueil data center where these shots were taken<\/h3>\n

Orange Business \u2014 the B2B division of Orange Group, formally established on June 1, 2006 through the consolidation of France Telecom’s Equant and Wanadoo operations \u2014 has built one of Europe’s most extensive data center networks over the past two decades. I took these shots of the Orange Business data center in 2014 as part of a social media event I organised on their behalf<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Orange Business began operating its own data centers in 2007, with early facilities in Norway serving both internal operations and cloud managed services clients. In France, the first data center at Val-de-Reuil in Normandy has been in operation since 2012. Built to meet growing demand for IT services, the Val-de-Reuil “Normandy” facility spans 16,000 m\u00b2 with 5,000 m\u00b2 of computer room space, and was among the largest facilities in France to use free cooling technology, which leverages outside air to dramatically reduce artificial air conditioning. These shots were taken in 2014.<\/p>\n

By commissioning two additional data centers, in Amilly (Centre-Val de Loire) and a second building in Val-de-Reuil, Orange placed energy efficiency at the heart of its Net Zero Carbon goal by 2040. For more than 10 months a year, these facilities operate without air conditioning, with natural cooling reducing their energy impact by 30% compared to older Orange data center generations.<\/p>\n

The Amilly facility, commissioned in 2022, is part of a strategy to consolidate activities from 17 legacy centers into three state-of-the-art sites.<\/p>\n

Today, Orange Business operates 88 data centers globally, serving multinationals across 220 countries. The flagship Val-de-Reuil campus holds ISO 9001, 14001, 22301, 27001, and 50001 certifications, reflecting Orange Business’s commitment to quality, security, and sustainability.<\/p>\n
