In Paris, in Spring, on sunny days, cycling is devilishly pleasurable (that is as long as you are not shouted at by some angry driver\/biker\/pedestrian… let’s not talk about that)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Paris in Spring on a balmy day shot rue Jacob in the 6th district, one of the poshest. There’s something crooked about that front door<\/a> on the left and it’s got nothing to do with my wide-angle lens. AS Spring is conducive to poetry,\u00a0here’s a little poem by Paul Eluard, one of the founders of the surrealist movement. As it’s surreal it’s got nothing to do with Spring. But it’s a poem about Paris nonetheless.<\/p>\n

In Paris<\/p>\n

In Paris there is a street;
\nIn this street there is a house;
\nIn this house there is a staircase;
\nIn this staircase there is a room;
\nIn this room there is a table;
\nOn this table there is a carpet;
\nOn this carpet there is a cage;
\nIn this cage there is a nest;
\nIn this nest there is an egg,
\nIn this egg there is a bird.<\/p>\n

The bird knocked over the egg;
\nThe egg knocked over the nest;
\nThe nest knocked over the cage;
\nThe cage knocked over the carpet;
\nThe carpet knocked over the table;
\nThe table knocked down the room;
\nThe room knocked down the stairs;
\nThe stairs knocked down the house;
\nthe house knocked down the street;
\nthe street overturned the city of Paris.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

About Eluard<\/p>\n

On December 14, 1895, Paul \u00c9luard was born as Eug\u00e8ne Grindel on the outskirts of Paris. He was an excellent student as a young boy, but after his family moved to Paris, \u00c9luard was registered at the \u00c9cole Primaire Sup\u00e9rieure Colbert, where, by his own admission, he did poorly. His studies were interrupted by illness, and at sixteen he left for a sanatorium in Davos, Switzerland, where he spent a year and a half.<\/p>\n
