By now, you know all about the fridge bridge of Blois. But as I go there often and happened to be on location during the so-called blue hour, I thought I might have a go at it again. And there it is in full light in the middle of the night with the eerie blue skies which I guarantee have not been photoshopped. For this particular shot I laid my camera on the ground very close to a blue led […]
Alfama is a district of Lisbon famous for tradition Portuguese Fado music. What we heard there on that day wasn’t Fado but jazz.
At long last, my computer has returned home and all my pictures are waiting for me in Lightroom. Here is a bunch taken out of my Lisbon pictures from last December when we were there with friends for the New Year. It all started with this indirect selfie taken from my height while hiding my camera. Looks very surreal. The sun was shining bright and the shadows were really impressive. Couldn’t help thinking about Roger “Chappo” Chapman in Mike Oldfield’s […]
Invitation to the Voyage Là, tout n’est qu’ordre et beauté, Luxe, calme et volupté. There all is order and beauty, Luxury, peace, and pleasure. — Charles Baudelaire
Rather than Piscine Molitor, I went to Aix les Bains to have a look at the 1930 swimming pool. Beautiful window. Sleeping beauty The pool is now closed.
1930 thermal baths in Aix les Bains. They are no longer used but the building is really beautiful.
In Blois (Loire Valley), if you get there by train, you will most probably cross the tracks thanks to a white metal footbridge (as it’s white I named it a ‘Fridge Bridge’). The ‘Fridge Bridge’ was finished in 2014. Its architecture is reminiscent of that which was popular in England in the early 1990s. Not in the vanguard. The weather was really good on Dec 25. Global warming again? At the end of the footbridge there is a circular ramp […]
The other day, I found a map describing the state of the freedom of Information, put together by Reporters Without Borders. I haven’t yet been able to suppress the picture from my mind and I thought that my last post for 2018 would have to be dedicated to freedom of information and freedom in general. A couple of weeks ago, we visited the Arts & Métiers Museum in Paris, and we came across a few copies of the Statue of […]
Dead leaves always make up for a nice subject and I rarely forget to prepare my camera in Autumn. As in this picture from a few years ago with the golden Ginkgos in Montsouris.
This weird-shaped mountain around Aix les Bains is named Cat’s Tooth for (almost) obvious reasons. Here’s my friend Yves looking towards the mountain as if from behind bars. In actual fact, from a Birdwatchers’ hideaway.
